ABOUT RYAN

Ryan is a theatre-maker, writer and actor based in Naarm/Melbourne, originally from Gadigal/Sydney. He is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts with a BFA in Theatre. Ryan’s making style is based in movement and text and an integration of the two. With a preference for Camp, comedy and no intermissions, Ryan enjoys telling stories through a queer lens. His aptitude for aesthetics guides his process, exploring how they can facilitate and direct content when creating new work. Ryan's writing stems from research and transforming it into fast paced but digestible theatre, maintaining the balance between the comedic and the dramatic.

As a queer artist, Ryan believes in representing, investigating, and celebrating all facets of his community. Whilst Queer Joy lays the foundation for his practice, he believes in presenting “all sides of the coin” in all his original works. Truth can be both ugly and glamourous at the same time and Ryan enjoys showcasing that onstage. His long-term goal is to present Queer theatre to larger audiences; to have his art showcased beyond purpose made queer festivals and to reach beyond his community to both educate and honour.
